Hello,
I have a 180gal FO tank that over the years I have added live rock to
the starting decorative rock / dead coral pieces that came from the prior
owner. I am adding another 50lbs of live rock to the tank in the next few
days - it is curing. I am thinking about removing some of the existing rock
with is dark bronw/green and perhaps bleaching it back to it's original
white coloring, in hopes that when it gets put back in the tank, coraline
algee has a better chance to cover it. The live rock have been adding
recently is showing beautiful pinks, greens and blue coraline and I have
been maintaining the calcium and trace materials.
Comments? or Recommendations?
Thanks - Henry

IMHO, I would leave the existing rock alone and use it as a base for your
live rock and the coraline should start growing on your semi dead rock,
green algae or not at least there is some life on it, a year ago we acquired
some dead coral rock and used it as a base for our acquired live rock and
now you can't distinguish the difference between the live or what was once
dead rock, KalkWasser, good lighting and good current are the key.

There is more info at http://www.garf.org/ goto propagation, coralline
algae.

My sugestion for going to Garf's website was to the section on coraline
propagation, not to buy anything aparently people seen www.garf.org and
didn't care to read the rest (goto propagation, coralline algae) and jumped
to conclusions.
