IMHO, I would leave the existing rock alone and use it as a base for your
live rock and the coraline should start growing on your semi dead rock,
green algae or not at least there is some life on it, a year ago we acquired
some dead coral rock and used it as a base for our acquired live rock and
now you can't distinguish the difference between the live or what was once
dead rock, KalkWasser, good lighting and good current are the key.
