Need another ID if anyone is up for it.
I think this is bad. I have a good amount of it. Is it aiptasia?
On a side note, check out that excellent purple fringing from my high dollar kit lens! Current Aquarium(s) Description: 29gal mess Experience in Saltwater & Reef Aquarium Hobby: Since this morning Other Intrests: Photography |

Re: Need another ID if anyone is up for it.
Looks like it to me, from what I have seen. Sorry!
Check out the link to the post below for a few ways to tackle the problem... http://www.livingreefs.com/forums/ne...-aiptasia.html Also do a google image search so you can see some great quality pics and compare it with what is in your tank. That's how I ID'd my friend's tank. Those dont look like aiptasias to me.Those look more like yellow polyps.
Check out the hitch hiker section at chucksadditction.com.

Keep in mind that these things are very small, maybe 3-4mm across top.

Re: Need another ID if anyone is up for it.
I'm not 100% sure on this, either some coral polyps like Yote mention but I'm leaning more toward colonial hydroids. In that case, they are considered a pest and which I'm not sure what is best way to get rid of them.My guess, removing the rock and using a salt, kalk paste or hot water will surely kill them.

Re: Need another ID if anyone is up for it.
I think reeffreak is right. It looks a lot like colonial hydroids. I found a pic at chucksaddiction.com(thanks yote, great resource) that looks just like it. At least it is not aiptasia, I guess it's the next best thing though.

Re: Need another ID if anyone is up for it.
I also think they are hydroids. Kimoy on here has been battling them recently. Your best option is to take out the rock they're on, as other methods don't seem to work very well at killing them.

Re: Need another ID if anyone is up for it.
Yep they are definitely hydroids if anyone finds this thread and thinks they have them. Scientific name Myrionema. Search for that and you will quickly be as disgusted as I am.
Wayyyyy worse than aiptasia(no natural controls) Current Aquarium(s) Description: 29gal mess Experience in Saltwater & Reef Aquarium Hobby: Since this morning Other Intrests: Photography |
