Re: Just getting started....too many questions!!

I was not paying attention when my hubby was working on the tank, I think it was sand first but no bowl to pour water into. I am not sure what route we are taking as to what is going into it. I know we are starting with cheap little fish so we arent wasting money if there is anything wrong now or later. Once we know that all is living well then we will start looking into bigger prettier fish and possible reef or corals.

Re: Just getting started....too many questions!!

Welcome to the site!

Remember to plan ahead.Buying the right equipment now will save you the expense of upgrading in the future. For example,Picking up an inexpensive lights now for a fish only tank and upgrading in 3 months to better lights because you're looking into corals may cost you more in the long run.IMO,a protein skimmer and lights are two things you don't want to go super cheap on.

Good luck

Since 90% of the people who get into this hobby eventually end up going reef, then I would suggest you go ahead and look into a set of lights.
Dont forget the skimmer.I know someone already posted that you'd need one.A good skimmer will go a long in helpping keep your water perimeters stable. No matter which set up you choose.
