Yep water quality close to shore is often quite poor. Mostly because of hydrocarbons running off the land and from boats.

dont think I was disagreeing with you that was not the case I was simply stating that they say the more live rock you have the better the filteration look how many pounds of live rock the ocean has. And CC and look how deep the sand bed is it just illudes me thats all.

Think of it like this.Look at your skimmer and the crap it pulls out of your water.
Then look at the wave action and the foam along the beach.
