Re: cleanup crew for large tank

Heniochus diphreutes
Live aquaria says no way, sw fish says monitor, and tropical fish says usually no probs?
Guess it is like everything else maybe maybe not.
Tropical fish mag also says you can do several hippos and several PMMI as long as different sizes and added at the same time.
This is one of the reasons I post so many questions. I do research, but there are so many different opinions. I like to have as much feed back as possible.

Re: cleanup crew for large tank

i ahve found out since i have 5 tangs in my tank that they usually fight with each other when i add another tang but it is usually only for the first day and then everything is good, i think youll be fine doing that with the tangs since you have a fairly large tank. but if the fighting continues then you should just change the aquascaping so that they all have to find new territories. and if you do that you may not have to add all the regals at the same time. and the reason that they say no way with the PMMI is because it is a butteryfly fish and they are worse then angels with picking at corals and butterflies usually eat all corals

try this link. Most people are adament that this fish is reef safe but all agree you are taking a risk by getting H. acuminatus. What do ya'll thank?

Re: cleanup crew for large tank

the only thing i saw on there that said they were reef safe was where it said they were found in the reefs, but angles are also found in ample amounts at the reefs but it doesnt mean that they dont eat the corals, personally i wouldnt risk it. but thats me, you can by all means get one and then just get an inexpensive coral to see how it does but i wouldnt add it to a reef system

Re: cleanup crew for large tank

Comments: One of the two most common Heniochus species in the aquarium trade. H. diphreutes is often confused with H. acuminatus, a species similar in appearance. The rear black stripe on H. diphreutes splits the center of the anal fin with the white midbody stripe, whereas the black stripe of H. acuminatus ends higher up on the anal fin. The schooling bannerfish is the only Heniochus commonly held to be reef-safe

That is a good idea. I could always put a coral in the quarintine tank with it and find out then.

Re: cleanup crew for large tank

Where is the best place to buy me clean up crew. I already have the ast. snails, and the nas. snails. My local SW choices are very poor. I usually pick up stuff when I am in the Dallas area. Which is 3hrs away.
Have you bought online?

liveaquaria.com, reeftopia.com, marinedepotlive.com, all of those are good places to go
