The T5 are better.
More efficient,better PAR/lumens per watt.(I hope you don't want me to explain the PAR/Lumens thing,lets just say its more usable light for corals etc.)

goo on ebay see what ya get im getting a 24 ' 56 watt t5 on my ten

My tank is only 20" across so it's hard to find something


Also

can you put those fixtures over a open tank?

In the more info part it says something about not putting it over the water
