2x250w MH 40gal?

Is 2 250w mh lights to much light for a 40 gallon? (Not worried about heat i have a chiller). And should i supplement with t5s or just use the mh with no t5s? Im looking at the Current Outer Orbit 2x250w or 2x150 36" lighting fixture as it seems to come out cheaper than retro kits and lunar led's.

I don't know if its to much but its more than what you need.2x150w will work just fine on your 40g.I thought the Outer Orbits come with T5 supplements,no?
The MH will need to be 14k or higher if it doesn't come with T5's supplementals.10k bulbs are too washy alone.

Yea the orbits do have t5's i forgot to put i was also looking at the sunpod also. I think i just want to run MH with no t5's.

Then make sure it has 14k bulbs or higher. You will not like 10k bulbs without some kind of actinic supplements.

I agree that 500 watts on that tank is overkill. You can do it, but why spend the money on something you don't need?

With the lights your looking at,you will need to hang them fairly high.If you dont, they could cause you some heat problems.
