Re: Lights on a timer?

that is a nice looking manjano. it's not a good one to have. but my LFS has this kind of anemone in one of their rock for months and never spread. i was surprised. it has a nice color to it when it was under a 400 watt halides 20k.

what a nice LFS you have there. taking advantage of a newbie. selling stuff just to make money. those are the kind of LFS that are supposed to be out of business, not the one's that give you great advise and won't sell you anything that you're not ready for.

If it looks anything remotely like this, then it's a majano anemone, and your LFS sold you a crock of shite when they told you they are good! These, and aiptasia are considered two of the biggest pests in our tanks. Kill it fast!

...Definitely stop feeding it though, you DO NOT want those things to grow and spread .

Majano, even though considered a pest, are no where near as bad as aiptasia.
I got 2 rocks that have 1 majano each on them. They have never spread or caused any problems.YET

Re: Lights on a timer?

Nope majanos aren't that bad. They have a very weak sting or none at all-like mushrooms.I seen some and they can be quite pretty. Its considered a pest because of how fast they spread.

How do I know if it's causing a problem? How do I remove it?

Re: Lights on a timer?

I wouldn't wait for them to suffocate other smaller corals like mushrooms and zoos.If it looks like they are spreading then kill them.I would remove the rock if possible and squirt a little boiling water on them or make a salt paste and smear on it.If not, boiling water through a syringe might work or Joe's Juice.I'm not sure of Joe's Juice works on majanos like it does on aiptasias though.
