part time filter
Ok, I am up and running with the tank now, but there are all the fines floating around in there, the HOB from the 20 gallon hospital tank with filter floos installed does not seem to do to much, or more so, I don't expect it to accomplish what is needed, so I am looking for suggestions on what would be the best buy to accomplish water polishing. Should I purchase a cannister type filter or perhaps somthing else? I am thinking I will need to run carbon at least once a month to keep nice clear water but I am not sure what I should use to administer this...again a cannister type filter or maybe just a sock on the main drain from the DT. Can I add a sock with filter floss to the main drain from the DT to capture the fine particales? I really want to do this right....and I certainly want crystal clear water, so what ever it takes to accomplish this I will do....just need some advice on the BEST way to do it. Thanks in advance.

Re: part time filter
A canister will work for running carbon part time and the floss.Keep it cleaned often so it won't become a phosphate/nitrate sponge. Those phosphate reactors will work too,you will need a small pump/powerhead to run it.Altogether, its slightly cheaper than a canister.

Re: part time filter
Any one ever had anything to do with Marineland Multistage Canister Filters? Not sure if this will work for me or not, I was just going to go with the FLUVAL canister but it works on a siphon, and I need to draw from the sump. Any suggestions on what to use to polish the water would be greatly appreciated.

Re: part time filter
I think that all canisters draw off siphon dont they?
You might be better off to get one of those magnum HOB canisters for what your trying to do. This might be something you could use. Aquarium Filters & Filtration: Hang On Tank Magnum Pro System Canister Filter

Re: part time filter
Being an arcylic tank there is really no place to hang anything, I can fit one where the overflow is but then I can't open the canopy, same with the sump, it has a nice wiiidddeeee lip all the way around it so it is almost impossible to hang anything from the sides. Thats kinda why I was looking for something that used a pump. Even running lines up the back and into the overflow will be tuff as the canopy lid lays flat against the back of the tank when open.
