Pre-Skimmer Box

I've recently noticed an oil slick floating on the top of my water. The powerhead that sucks the water out is about 4" or 5" BELOW the surface of the water. It's not doing a thing to suck that oil slick off the surface.

Is there a commercially available skimmer box or overflow box that I could just hang on the tank or attach to the powerhead so that the water on the surface is drawn towards the powerhead?

Re: Pre-Skimmer Box

I ran into that same problem before I went to sump.Matter of fact that was the reason I set the sump up.
If you can find an overflow box that the power head will fit in,then you can just hang the box and drop the head in it.I couldnt find one that it would fit in though.

Re: Pre-Skimmer Box

Sweet! Thanks oscaesdad608. Thats exactly what I need. It's even designed to fit the MJ 1200 -- and I just happen to have the MJ 900 powerhead on my refugium. (same size as the 1200 unit)

I'll have to get a piece of acrylic and bend it up to hang on the tank lip. Looks like I just got myself into a DIY project.
