how mucch are metal haileds

how much are MH fixture and ane can u putt an 250 w buld were there used to be a 175w or do u have to buy a certain watted fixtuerto a certain light

Current Aquarium(s) Description: 65 gallon, with some coarls. soon 100g with 50g sump reef tank.
Experience in Saltwater & Reef Aquarium Hobby: 6 months
Other Intrests: cooking,chillin with friends,drinking,video games, sailing

check this site out. Hamilton Technology Corporation
you can use a 250 watt bulb as long as they are the same size there are some that have smaller screw ends. but you have to change the ballast to a 250watt one. you can get a ballast for about 150 from hamiliton i think this is where i order my halides from.

Yeah MH dont work like normal light bulbs. You cant just change the bulb to a different wattage. You have to match a bulb with a ballast. It would be cheaper to buy a new fixture than to peice together. However, if you peice it together, you get exactly what you want in a retro fit.
