Unimax 250 Canister Filter

I traded about $5 worth of Plant Substrate for a Unimax 250 canister filter, it has 3 media compartments and a UV filter in it. Its only rated for a 70 gal system. Will it be ok for my 180 just for running carbon or phos removal media? Is it even worth messing with?

That would be just fine for running carbon or phosphate stuff.

Re: Unimax 250 Canister Filter

Should I run the UV filter in it or not, I know the pros and cons. They are bad for phytoplacton and pods correct?

Re: Unimax 250 Canister Filter

The UV filter will kill anything that passes through it -- algae spores, parasites, pods, phytoplankton, etc. On that small of a filter, I doubt that the UV will make that much of a difference for a tank your size. But no, I wouldn't run it unless I was having a disease outbreak or something.

It will be A-OK.Actually a slow flow is better when running carbon and phosphate remover.Personally,I wouldn't run the UV,if you do use it,wait til the cycle is done first.
