I think you will be happy with t5s. Fro tanks under 24 inches high they are pretty much a no brain-er when compared to halides imo.

Absent the shimmering effect of halides its hard to tell the difference until the end of the month when your electric bill is lower from shutting off the chiller and the halides.

We have an upscale LFS in my area with four displays in front before you go to the "back room" where the merchandise is. I had a friend with me that is not in the hobby when I stopped here. For yucks I asked him which tank he thought looked brighter in regards to lighting. He pointed at the only DT with T5s. The other three had halides. He also mentioned that the halide tanks looked like they where lit with spot lights.
