Re: do you use a uv sterilizer?

From what iv read, i think like half use them. In my reef club people were saying how much it helped them with their problems with ich.

Re: do you use a uv sterilizer?

If i had one i would only be using if/when i had some illness going around the tank. They kill the bad as well as good bacteria in the tank.

Re: do you use a uv sterilizer?

I know very few people who use one. I don't think it's necessary unless you keep fish that are prone to disease (like sensitive tangs).

Re: do you use a uv sterilizer?

I don't use one myself and really don't know of any people who do.

I think a UV would be great for FOWLR system with fish prone to ich.Remember a UV is not a cure all but does help somewhat. In a reef setup,I think that bad outweighs the good.

Re: do you use a uv sterilizer?

I have used them in the past and still have a couple packed away some where. Typically most UV filters are under sized and people run too high a flows through them. I found I had to run flow rates of a little less than half of what the manafacturers recommended for good parasite comtrol even used in just a quarantine tank. If the glass cover tubes are dirty at all they perform very poorly. I found them just not worththe cleaning an cost of operation, yet alone the cost of purchase. I would reccomend anyone that purchases on use them only with a quarantine tank, and to buy one with UV tube wattage two too three times or more the recommended size for thetank it will beusedon and that they buy only a UV light that has a built in wiper for keeping the glass tube, covering the UV tube, clean.
