Re: To drill or not to drill
Question - on your siphon. what do you use to start it back up again should the power go off?

Re: To drill or not to drill
I use a little Aqualifter pump, it stays plugged in 24/7 and it automatically restarts the siphon. It was like $7 or something. I have a CPR overflow box and it was recommended I buy the Aqualifter with it.

Re: To drill or not to drill
How well does it work? If I have another option instead of drilling.. I'd much rather do that.
Is there a website for how to set it up, or can you post a picture or two? Current Aquarium(s) Description: 46 Bowfront - Reef; 29 - Fish Only Experience in Saltwater & Reef Aquarium Hobby: 5 years Other Intrests: Sailing, Percussion and Photography |

Re: To drill or not to drill
It works really well. When I do a water change, I detach the Aqualifter from the overflow box, and that immediately stops the siphon. I change my water, reattach the Aqualifter and the siphon automatically starts up again.
Here's the link: Tom Aquatics Aqua Lifter—Dosing Pump - Marine Depot - Marine and Reef Aquarium Super Store (It was $12, not $7). I will take some pics of it set up tonight and post them for you. Re: To drill or not to drill
I like the sounds of this option much better than drilling through the tank.

Re: To drill or not to drill
Here you go. The Aqualifter has some tubing connected to the overflow box (this pulls air/water out to keep the siphon going), and the second piece of tubing goes back to the main tank (it drips water out). That way if the power goes out the Aqualifter starts right up again and your tank doesn't overflow. I tested everything out, doing "make believe power outages" when I first set it up to make sure it would do what it was supposed to do. It works. Re: To drill or not to drill
Wonderfull. I'll have to do some searching and look for plans on how to set it up.. but I like this scenario much more then draining, emptying, moving, drilling and refilling...
