Berlin RedSea Skimmer Question

I bought a Berlin HOT (hang on sump in my case) Skimmer last year for my
FOWLR tank, but there was a clearance issue, so i never used it.

On my 125reef I was using an Amiracle Quad Venturi skimmer that I picked
up the pet warehouse scratch and dent sale for $10 (before dr jeckle & hyde
I mean fosters and smith acquired them)

I has to tear down and restart the reef tank, and decided to use the
berlin on the 125, and I am having major trouble with the foam being
pushed out the vent holes in the lid, then clogging those holes, and then
pushing the lid up and foam running down the side. Is this common with the
berlin's? I was at premiumaquatics today, and one of the guys there said
he had a similar issue. Has anyone else, and what have you done to rectify
the problem?
