Metal Halide Bulbs prices?

I was wondering if anyone could help clear up a situation that I have come
across regarding metal halide bulbs. I see bulbs (specifically 175w) everywhere
online and am confused about pricing. The LFS here charges about $85 per bulb.
There is a major electrical distributor in town that sells 175w bulbs for $20
each. What is the difference in bulbs? There must be something because $20
bulbs seem too cheap. Thanks for any input

Make sure that it is a M58 bulb, and of the correct color tempature that you
want.
I see 5000k bulbs ( grow lights ) all the time for 20 to 30 bucks.
If they have 10,000k, 12,000k, and 20,000k bulbs for 20 bucks, buy all they
have in stock and retire on your ebay profits!!

And pick me up about 6 400w 12,000k bulbs while you're at it

Re: Metal Halide Bulbs prices?

your paying more for the color. homedepot sells MH bulbs for $24 but the
color is just short of 5000k. Not great for reefs, better for growing algea
in your reef (trust me i tried them) very yellow color. I have found MH
bulbs for $60-70 at the cheapest in the correct colors online

so ive seen your ad here before, and i just got back from checking it out.

first off your prices are ok, ive gotten better lately but there not bad
your selection of SW stuff kinda sux
your breeding section only has 1 product
several products dont have prices
a few have only a category and no items (models with prices look at blowers|sweetwater as
a single example)
there are a few items where the prices are much higher than they should be(hopefully a
typo)
your menu needs major sorting

I know my list can go on and on, but I think ill leave you and others in this group with
that.
