Fishtankstore.com.... Here's our story :-(
Below is a copy of the letter we have sent to Advance Aqua Tanks.
I spoke to the President today, who was kind in returning my call promptly, just before I faxed this letter . He said he would speak to the distributer soon, but at this point, as far as he was concerned, the order did not exist. He obviously doesn't yet feel as strongly as we do about our experience. We feel like we're getting burned, and Fishtankstore.com is doing it with Adavanced Aqua Tank's name. Our order didn't get placed. Our phone calls are being ignored. We have live rock curing. We're very P'O'D. We hope that Advanced Aqua Tanks will help us resolve this so it doesn't get drawn out or ugly. We hope Fishtank.com cleans up this mess, so we don't have to post this kind of experience. It's not too late yet for FISHTANKSTORE.COM save face. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Letter to Advanced Aqua Tanks: Dear Mr. Lem I write to you to detail our most unpleasant experience with Cliff Scalco, owner of Fishtankstore.com. On September 28th I e-mailed Fishtankstore.com through their website and provided contact information and expressed a desire to purchase a Clear For Life tank and accessories. (My wife wanted to give me a saltwater tank set-up for my 46th B'day). After not receiving a call the next day 9-29-03, I tried calling the contact # on the website and left my name and number on voicemail. The next day 9-30-03 I tried calling again and left a message again on voicemail in the morning and the afternoon. That night I sent another e-mail stating that I had been calling, and that if I didn't here from someone by the next day, 10-1-03 I was going to another online store. I didn't get a return call before noon, so I called Myfishtank.com, a different supplier, left a message, and my call was returned promptly. I was told I would have a quote on my list of items that night via e-mail, which I received. The next day 10-2-03 Mr. Scalco called, and I explained that I had gone to another store because no one had contacted me. He apologized, explaining that he had a virus on his computer and was unable to retrieve messages. After explaining what I had decided to purchase, the delivery schedule (6-8 weeks) and from whom, he said he would get me the same order for less and have it delivered within 3 weeks. I asked him if he could guarantee his claim to deliver under three weeks, and he said yes. I gave him my list and he sent me an a-mail quote the same day. The quote is at the bottom of this letter, which I have forwarded. After discussing the Quote with my wife I called Cliff and completed the order. My wife then completed the sale with her check card for the below listed items: 55S tank w/out hood (polycarbonate covers) Deluxe single filtration system w/ protein skimmer (as shown on Fishtankstore.com's site) Trapezoid overflow box (center end) Squared corners (we planned viewing from both sides) Giant pump (he suggested one of 2 models) Shipping The total was $1,065.00. My wife paid this in full during that phone call, and afterward I discussed the delivery time. Cliff again stated that we would receive delivery within 3 weeks, and to call in about two weeks to check the status of the order. My wife's bank statement shows a debit to Fishtankstore.com for $1,065.00 on 10-3-03 Please note the copy of that portion of her bank statement that we have faxed to your office. We did not immediately receive an e-mail confirmation for the order and figured it was forthcoming. I called cliff yesterday 10-15-03 about 8:00pm PST and left a message with voicemail. I called again about 2:30pm PST and got Cliff. Cliff said he was contacting Advance Aqua Tanks to check the status of our order, and promised to call us back in "an hour and a half". After not receiving the call I sent this message through Fishtankstore.com's site last night. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Hello Cliff, We did not here back from you. Please call us and tell us the status of our order. Also, we did not receive an e-mail confirmation for our order on 10-2-03 Can you please e-mail us a copy or confirmation of our order. Not having purchased from you before, not having any type of order confirmation, and not having our calls returned leaves us very concerned. Please call us. Mark and Adrianne Breithaupt Phone: 240-304-7385/ 301-589-8731 day or night ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- After considering the way our calls were returned from the beginning of our correspondence with Cliff, and yesterday's call not being returned, we presumed something just wasn't right. We have not heard from Cliff or received a response from the above message by e-mail or phone. After talking to Sol, who has been very helpful and understanding of our concerns, we have discovered that our order has not been placed. Our calls and e-mails to Cliff are continuing to go unanswered ( I tried again this afternoon 2:30pm PST). Forgive any suttle lack of restraint, but we perceive that we may be getting decieved or are being given the type of run around that could last indefinately. We hope that in telling you, the manufacturer of a very nice product we would like to see displayed in our home, of our plight with Fishtank.com, Cliff Scalco ( one of your distributers representing your produtct) we may be able to get this problem resolved. We are formally requesting your assistance to help us in this matter. Thankyou, and I appreciate your recent phone call. Re: Fishtankstore.com.... Here's our story :-(
Sounds like you used a debit card. If you did it's your
responsibility to get this resolved. Probably in court. With a credit card you just contest the bill. Never use a debit card for something like this. Perhaps everyone would be so kind as to remove their posts containing our

Only you can cancel your message here. But, sadly, it's already too late. I'd still cancel it anyway, just so it won't be archived for all eternity. Folks have had to change their phone numbers because of faux pas like the one you just made. Cancel it. Also remember, Check Cards are not like credit cards, you are not afforded the same protections. In reality, using your debit card at an unknown, online retailer, is akin to handing them a signed blank check. Kev |
