Microbubbles

I have a slight problem microbubbles. I belive i have just to much water
flow through my sump for the bubble trap to be effective. My drain line is 1
1/2" coming in and 1" outlet to Iwaki pump. I can see the micro bubbles
going right through the bubble trap. I have put a filter sock over the drain
into the sump and that has helped but still getting the bubbles. Is there
anything I can do to modify the drain out let to help this, or are there any
other possible remidies?

a wider spaced bubble trap can help to a degree with the high flow rate.

also adding rubble where the overflow into the sump is helps.

Do you have a skimmer in your sump? If so, turn it around so that the output is
pointing away from the bubble trap.

Is your sump running rather shallow (4" or less)? If so, that is part of the
problem because you don't have much volume for the bubbles to rise and pop.

Do you have the input of water pouring into anything that can contain the
bubbles at first? A pitcher with a bunch of holes drilled in the base will
work, so that the majority of the bubbles are trapped and pop in there while the
water flows out the base relatively air-free. Fill up the pitcher with LR
rubble to work even more effectively.

Try to figure out a good solution so you can get that filter sock out of there.
Sponges, socks, filter pads etc all end up becoming nitrate factories, and you
don't want those do you?

On my mag12 pump, I just placed 90 degree PVC joint so that the pump sucks
of the bottom of the tank.

Those are good ideas I will put to use. I had thought of using something
like a pitcher, but had not thought of filling with rubble. That is my next
step. Skimmer is in sump but output goes to small refugium and then the
water is directed back into sump before bubble trap. I'm sitting at about 8"
water level with 6" trap walls. And yes I am eager to get that sock out of
there.

Thanks for the reply John. I have my intake on a 90 just off the bottom of
sump.
