what's your job?

i thought it would be neat to se what everyone else does to support their reefing habit. list a what you company does, a few detail about what you do, salary range etc.
i work for a natural gas compression company called exterran. we were known as hanover compression until monday. we merged with another company called universal compression to become the largest compressor company worldwide. we rent and service natural gas compressors and production equipment worldwide. basically we are the ones that get the natural gas from the ground to your home or business.
i'm a field service techinician (greasemonkey) for them. i service and repair engines such as those made by caterpillar. they range from 50 horsepower to 2,000 horsepower. my hours typically start at 8:00 a.m. and end whenever the job is done. even if it's 8:00 am the next day! we are on 24 hour callout 7 days a week 365 days a year. it's a hot, dirty, noisy and demanding job ( i have thought about calling mike rowe a couple times) but it pays decent for this part of the country. entry level pay starts at a base rate of 35,000 a year. and goes to about 75,000 depending on skill and experience. heres a link to the company website. Welcome to Exterran

Re: what's your job?

I work around 20 hours a week at Terracon Consultants, Inc. Terracon Consulting Engineers and Scientists. It's an engineering consulting firm and I am an Environmental Specialist there. I do Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, radon, asbestos and lead-based paint assessments. I work mainly with cell towers, doing the environmental clearance before they can be built.

I also work around 20 hours a week at the Environmental Research Lab (ERL) at the University of Arizona. I work with trees there. I'm looking at water use in cottonwoods and willows used for ecological restoration projects. It's not too exciting .

I'm also a full time student, working on my PhD in Soil, Water and Environmental Science.

Re: what's your job?

I work for Verizon Wireless, no explanation needed because if you dont know who they are... (as david spade says in tommy boy) you should be hit over the head with a tack hammer because you are a retard!

I manage Technical Support at a retail location. aka babysit people. Salary paid and work usually 50 hours a week at least so i get the corperate america salary no paid overtime butt ram special without the lube. pay is very good for my age and education level, however is still not enough considering my very expensive hobby of salt water... not to mention my motorcycling, and tattoo hobby and beinga single dad too.

Re: what's your job?

I am the inventory/shop manager for my dad's Mechanical business (heating/air/plumbing). We have 50 employees and 35 trucks. I am in charge of purchasing well over 500 different parts/products ranging from a copper 90 degree elbow to the massive roof top air conditioning units that are installed on commercial buildings. I am also going to school to someday take over the family business.

Oh, I almost forgot. I own 20 candy vending machines as a side "gig". Funny as it sounds I make great money doing this.

Re: what's your job?

Home

Well this is where I work.Basically my home away from home being as im here for 70 to 80 and sometimes more hours a week.
Im supposed to be the shop foreman, but here lately Ive had to do my job which is fab all the duct work,do all the welding, maintain all the outdated shop equipment and help in the field too. With the heat going on,when somebodys AC goes out, they want it fixed yesterday.
I go on the clock usually around 2 or 3am,and clock out when ever I get a chance.
The pay sux,the benefits are non existant, but it buys beans.
Now since Im leaving early today,Its time for me to clack out and go home.

Re: what's your job?

Oh, and today I started teaching my first class, Introduction to Environmental Science. That's three days a week that I teach that. The class consists mainly of college freshmen and sophomores. I think I did pretty well for someone with no teaching experience, but I was hella nervous! I should start bringing in cake, donuts and cookies every day. That will make my students like me! Punks.
