Re: what's your job?

Wow you all managed to get way off topic! Biff congrats on being the white collar of the bunch. I c we have a bunch of tin knockers here. Me im a sparky. Local 8 out of Toledo Ohio. I am 3 years into my inside aprenticship. Being an electician is okay(money pays the bills)
But i really like being a volenteer fireman/basic emt-b. That is some of the most fun.
Oh and then there is the USMC

Re: what's your job?

Frankly, I think being white-collar is over rated. I sit in my office eight plus hours a day in a shirt and tie. Pay is nice, but it gets old. I would love a more hands on type of job.

Re: what's your job?

OK, I'm a Millwright with the second largest mining company in the world. We are a large nickel miner in northern ontario. I've been there about 12 years now, and spent about 7 of them anywhere from 1500-5000 feet underground. I repair and maintain all non-mobile mechanical equipment (pumps, mills, crushers etc.) I work Mon-Fri from 7:30 - 4:00, but overtime is available to me daily if I want it. All my benefits are paid, and of course medical care is free up here. I will make about 110,000 this year, which used to be the equivalent of about 40 dollars US, but is actually been hovering at par for the past year....lol! Having said all that, I think I'm going to be late for work, so I better go!

Re: what's your job?

I am afraid to tell what I do haha... I work with petroleum at a bulk liquid terminal in West Palm Beach FL. We store liquid asphalt and Diesel fuel in large tanks. The tanks range from 98,000 gallons to 4,333,937 gallons. We recive product from ships and barges then trucks load to take to customers.
I do computer work, maint, grounds, dock watch, Lab work all kinds of things.
There is no set time to start work or get off work it is day by day. the pay starts out at $31,000 and up from there. I like my job but like every one else I don't get paid enought.

Re: what's your job?

so if a truck is hauling diesel fuel, do they get to fill their truck up for free or do they still have to pay for gas?
