Pilots do not go unemployed in Alaska. Most of Alaska has no roads. A lot of skis used on planes during the winter. Floats, and Tundra tires used a lot during the summer. Tundra tires are just big over sized balloon tires. Every large village has a run way though. Typically the only roads in a lot of the villages is to the runway and to the sanitary landfill.

yall put your roads in the right places leading to the planes and to the dump no need to waste asphalt on anything else but keeping the runways nicely paved

Most of the runways up there arent paved a lot of them are just cleared strips or they are in the permafrost.

If the brush is below the tips of your blades and it is a sorta rectangular area marked by 55 gallon drums, it is an improved Alaskan runway. Otherwise it is the tundra, without trees, or a gravel bar, hopefully without logs. Alaska runways, are nearly all for short field landings, and short field take offs. Just pracice taking off and landing from your back yard. If there is pavement on the landing strip it is a strip for a town tied into the road system, or it is military.
