Re: Going to take a break,

speaking of getting old
i was in my garage the other day and found myself yelling something at my 10 year old
at the time i was also talking with my neighbor whom is in his sixties
i turned to him and said " Ron i am turning into my parents"
to which he said "no your children are turning into you"

thought that was a good twist on the we all turn into our parents phrase

Re: Going to take a break,

Smart man. I used to hate my parents, especially when I realized I had become all the things I hated about them. The hard part was their visiting me in Alaska after 15 years of not having seen me. They actually flew from Missouri to Alaska uninvited and unannounced. That was when I realized when they had changed and I had still remained sick. Talk about emotionally confused. I could no longer figure out anyway in my mind to continue blaming things on them. A few years later I joined a 12 step group. Now I am glad my marriages ended in divorces while my children were young, as maybe the chain of sickness will actually be broken and my children will not end up anything like me. My father was the type that raised me as a child by saying boys do not cry, boys do not need hugs, men do not kiss their boy children, if your old enough to walk then your too old to be sitting in your mothers lap or needing hugs from your mother, and boys should play sports not read all the time. My mother use to sneak hugs and kisses to me. I found myself raising my own son the same way. Just as my parents used to be told I was so adult like I found myself being told the same thing about my son when he was only three or four years old. I now believe an adult like child usually becomes a childish adult.
