Is it just me

I personally have no bad experiences with them but when people that contribute both tons of money and information get banned for posting a picture out of their own collection it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Re: Is it just me

Iv never been on reef central, but I can say all boards, for one reason or another, have their amount of 'drama' at one time or another including this one.

RC is really popular, so the way I look at it is; the more people, the more of a chance there is for people to bicker. As for mods, their all the same

The mods here have class and a sense of humor. Something that escapes THEM over THEIR.

Re: Is it just me

Thats why I like this site.We can post wise cracks without getting yelled at.And the only snobby, power hungery, sadistic mod we have is Biff.
On most of the other sites, you better stay just right there on topic, and run you give the same advice as the mods,or at least agree with em.

Re: Is it just me

I think you need more options.

I chose 'absolutely not'. I'm not a fan of some of the comments there, nor of how you seem to have to have the very best of everything. I also get the impression I couldn't compete on a financial bases and don't really care enough to try. Therefore, I don't subscribe to the site (don't subscribe to any other site for that matter and primarily use this and Wet Web Media). However, when I research a fish, coral, or reefing method, I often find information leading me to the site. Some of the information is good. I feel more confident of information when more than one person or place gives the same info on a product or method. Therefore, although it is not my first choice, I can't say they just 'sure does'. How about somewhere in between?

Re: Is it just me

Well based on the topic of the thread im gonna have to shut this down, Being the power hungry moderator that I am!! Just kidding, I am however going to edit the thread. You deserve your say here, but please keep it clean. and dont outright bash other sites. If you would like to talk about how to make this site or other sites better that is ok, But we at Livingreefs dont want to get a reputation for bashing reefcentral. It is a great site and the moderators are for the most part good people. Though they are not at all forgiving, they really dont have time to be. they are dealing with alot of people and cant sit and take every situation personally.
Please keep this thread clean or I will shut it down.
thanks
Bryan

Re: Is it just me

The only thing I use it for is for info on my local reefers club. I read and post in the local buy/sell/trade threads, and I keep up to date on when our local frag swaps/meetings are. But that's all. Otherwise, I think the site is just too big -- information overload. That's good for a lot of people, but it'd take me forever to find what I was looking for if I had to rely on that site (not to mention, the "search" button has not once, never ever worked when I've tried to use it). I know several people in my local club have been banned for suggesting a group coral buy for a local meeting from an online store that was not one of RC's sponsors. Apparently, you can only mention and promote vendors that give RC money and are official sponsors of the site. Other people in my club have also been banned for posting pics of corals that they are trying to sell out of their own tanks (just getting out of the hobby, they are not in business or anything). I once posted that I was trying to GIVE AWAY FOR FREE a tank stand, it said something like "55 gallon tank stand. Wood, black. FREE! You haul it, you have it." I got a warning that I was not allowed to post "For Sale" threads unless I had XX posts already or something. I was like, "I'm not trying to sell anything, duh."

I really don't understand their rules.

Re: Is it just me

HEHE! sorry I beat you biff!
As for there rules, unfortunalty there are 10% of people on reefcentral trying to use the site for there own gain. And in order to control that 10% they have to punish the other 90%. I dont necessarily agree with it, but you have to look back at the site as a whole and see where it is. You cant deny they have something amazing there, and it is because they are strict. Like it or not they are doing something right or they wouldnt be what they are.

Re: Is it just me

Like what was first stated there are a lot more people that belong to rc. Giving a larger chance of drama and it turn like ironman said the mods have less time to really deal with each individual situation as it comes. I think its a great source of information. There are some EXTREMELY smart and knowledgable people on rc.... Not to say that there are not on here, but its a great place to read through and get additional info out of. Though I will definately stay loyal to lr I do like to go there from time to time to read up on things.
