Re: Guns or no guns?

I dont believe in firearms "accidents".I think that kids should be taught about guns. That old expression "curiousity killed the cat" gets a lot of kids hurt.
My kids wont even point a toy at anybody, even when they play cowboys and indians.I taught them not to.I also taught them what happens when a gun is fired. When they see what happens to a squirrel thats shot, their not as likely to play with the gun. They know it kills.

Biff,I'd go a step farther and charge em with attempted murder.Lock em for at least 10 years. And not just to sit there and lift weights and watch TV.Give them a 16 pound sledge hammer and a pile of rock.Tell them that either they make little one out of big ones or they dont get to eat that night.

Re: Guns or no guns?

Yep my daughter started her firearms education a la dad this summer(She's five) should be a mandatory class in elementary school about firearms safety. The Eddie Eagle program is a great one for that. Teaches kids about firearms safety without teaching that guns are good or bad. Support your local Friends of the NRA(all money goes to grants and education not associated with the NRA's political fund at all, not one penny. Im a local comitee member)

NDB was working as a bouncer at a popular college bar when I met him. He had to call the cops on customers all the time, because they'd leave the bar and hop in their cars. If they were parked off of bar property, there was nothing he could do to stop them. He'd always come home in a good mood if he was able to stop a drunk driver or two that night.

Re: Guns or no guns?

It isnt the gun that kills, but the person. Anyone could get a crossbow, knife, rope, fist ,etc and kill somebody if they got mad enough. my dad told/taught me about guns like/. I have bb guns, bow, pellet, airsoft, paintball and i cant point it at anyone (unless they harm me). He also taught me that always keep a gun on safty, hid it awy fromchildren, and to keep it unloaded at all times and some other stuff.

It is my responsibility, not the Government, to keep my kids safe. Far too many look to the government to be the nanny. We need to take responsibility for ourselves.

Unfortunately, you are probably one of the few who takes responsibilities like this into their own hands. I don't think young, innocent kids should die because their parents neglect to teach them how to (and how to not) handle a weapon. Yes, parents SHOULD take responsibility, but the reality is that MANY don't. If mandatory safety measures can save the lives of kids who end up dead from messing around with guns, so be it. I believe it's a small price to pay.

Re: Guns or no guns?

Did I tell y'all about the guy hammering on my front door a couple months ago? I know I told the mods over at rcuniverse, but couldn't remember if I told it here.

11pm on a Saturday night and some A-hole is BEATING on my front door. I'm nekkid on the couch with a beer in one hand and one of my wifes boobs in the other hand. I'm in an apartment building with 12 units. No idea who this guy is, but can't see out the keyhole because my wife had an easter wreath hanging on the outside of the front door. All I can see is branches and plastic leaves. But he's kicking my front door now.

That's EXACTLY why I have guns and exactly why I'll I'm glad I had one at the time.

911
Run full speed down the hall to my bedroom
12ga shotgun in my hands
Loaded, and on safety with 4 in the magazine and an empty chamber 00 buck -- 3.5" magnum rounds
Butt nekkid back down the hallway with my 12ga
Back to the front door but standing 5' off to the side and squared off on the door

"I got a 12gauge and if you bust that door down I'm gonna blow a hole in your chest m'fker!!!!!"

Safety off

Silence outside

RACK SHOTGUN DELIBERATELY (loud as sh*t)

Total silence in outside hallway.

Wife hands me a pair of boxers and a robe

Hand shotgun to her and toss on clothes

Take shotgun back from wife

911 operator on phone in complete panic

"Put the gun down sir!! The police are oon their way!! Put it down!!"

Total silence outside

me: "I'll put the shotgun down as soon as the Arvada Police knocks on my door and identifies themselves. I promise."

8 minutes later.................

"ARVADA POLICE DEPARTMENT!!!! PUT THE SHOTGUN DOWN AND OPEN THE DOOR!!"

Place shotgun on SAFETY and set it on the couch

"I'm not armed anymore!! The shotgun is on the couch and I'm opening the door!!"

All better.

It was some drunk jerk who was friends with the people across the hall way. He'd never been there and knocked on the wrong door by mistake (mine). When I didn't answer, he thought his friends were messing with him and he got loud and violent.

The cops figured this out in about 45 seconds after somebody across the hall opened their door and the hall way instantly filled with pot smoke. Suspicion of a crime--enter at will.

We took the wreath off the door and they guy across the hall went white as a sheet when the cops told him that I REALLY was armed with a 12ga and 4 rounds of 00 buck 3.5" magnums.

Took the mood right outta getting any sex that night, but I was damn glad I had a gun at the time.

No, thats not a made up story. It's the honest to gawd truth.

Re: Guns or no guns?

I'm glad the deadbolt and the door frame held up. I don't want to shoot anybody.

But I will if I have too. It's comforting to know I have that option when it comes to protecting my family and myself in my home.
