That's where a huge misconception arises. Who says they have to live on an earthlike planet? Up until a few years ago, scientists believed that oxygen and water were the basis of all life on earth. Since then, we have discovered a type of bacteria referred to as "extremophiles" which do not need the elements conventionally thought were necessary to sustain life. They live in environments where the temperatures are either so high or so low that nothing else survives. They metabolize toxic chemicals for energy instead of the usual carbon, nitrogen, etc. They live in environments totally devoid of water.

If you are looking for "life as we know it", then we could stick with earth-like planets. But I don't think extraterrestrial life has to follow the requirements of life on earth. After all, we've just only started discovering life on earth that doesn't follow those rules already.

So limiting the scope to "earth-like planets" is pointless. Who says they have to live on an earth-like planet? Extremophiles that live here on earth require very un-earthlike conditions to live.

Re: UFO's/extra terrestrials

The "laws of physics" really only apply to earth if you think about it. Newtons laws dont really apply in a zero gravity situation right? What goes up sure doesnt come down in space. So whos to say that the rest would hold up. They should really be called Earth Physics.

Some of our most interesting life comes from very "unearthlike conditions" at the bottom of the oceans. Organisms that feed off sulfur in near boiling water. For all we know an extra-terrestrial being could breath vaporized acids or maybe not even breath at all.

the reason that they arent is because as far as science knows we are the only ones out there so why call them earth physics, the only people they dont apply to are astronauts and im sure they know once they break the atmosphere those rules dont apply to them

Re: UFO's/extra terrestrials

Hense the term "advance species". The average person can't comprehend things like folding space/time, Gravitational proportion system and of course quantum physics which are reality, not science fiction. Only in the last 100 years have we made serious advancements, now imagine a species with 100,000 years of technology, can you really comprehend it? Imagine us in 20000 years from now, if we are still a specieis and alive, imagine all the advancements made... you cant. So you cant really say, how can they come here? we dont know how if we knew how, we wouldnt be fighting with Osama Bin Laden. We're still primitive in the bigger realm of things. Way too primitive.

Re: UFO's/extra terrestrials

Dustin if you really want to look into some deep stuff grab a Stephen Hawkings book and give that a go. This is just speculation.

Re: UFO's/extra terrestrials

Ryan, when you have time, watch this film. This amateur guy who is investigating the nasa files is asking some remarkable mathematic questions and is working to prove what he is seeing. Its very interesting and 90 mins long. The really good stuff starts after 20-30 mins but watch the whole thing to get a good grasp. Very smart guy. This is not some kinds of TV show or anything, just an amature UFOlogist trying to get to some serious asnwers.

Also, you might recall the teader insident that was on the news back in the 90s...

Let me know what you think.
