Re: Sweet guns.

Because hes a young man in, what is presumably a rural community, talking from experience that is very desirable for a youngster of that age. I dont think that his choice was the best but his desires are right in line with most other country kids his age.

That right there is the key.WITH ADULT SUPERVISION.Even though all 3 of my kids shoot. My 4 year old daughter, and my 9 and 18 year old boys.Matter of fact,my 9 year old will be squirrel hunting with his own 22 at daylight in the morning.Plus he'll be doing some deer hunting with his own .243 this year. But I DRILL firearms safety into my kids from the time they started walking.
Just for the record,I'm not against Hibye having a 22,there great to learn with. But like Ryan said,9 times out of 10,you end up regretting it when you buy off brand replicas like those.

A lot of people feel that way JCE.But 99.9% of those folks have never spent a Sunday afternoon plinking targets,or sitting at the edge of a dove field.Shooting is a great family sport, weather you hunt or not.It also helps build responsible thinking, builds confidense, helps hand/eye corddination(and y'all thought Ryan could misspell)

Here, any kid can hunt with a licensed adult,as long as the adult is close enough to take control of the firearm. At age 10,they have to take the hunter safety course.Anybody born after Jan,1 1969 has to take it.After they pass the hunter safety course, they can hunt the youth deer hunts with an adult and can legally hunt by theirselves when they turn 16.
Personally,I was turned loose with a squirrel rifle when I was 9.A Savage 22LR single shot.I had to account for every shot,So I had to have a squirrel for every shot I had taken,or had to have a good reason why I didnt.Started deer hunting at 10,harvested my 1st deer that same year, while hunting by myself. But unlike a lot of the kids now,My Dad took me on trips with him when I was like 2 or 3 years old.So I basically grew up with a gun in my hand.

Re: Sweet guns.

I haven't written much on this one, but have to weigh in ...

I don't see why anyone, with adult supervision, would enjoy shooting a .22. My 15 year old hunts rabbits and squirrels with a .22, while I am only a few feet away. Any of my kids know they can see my guns just about anytime they ask me. I want them to respect the tools in my house. Guns are nothing more than a tool.
