my freshwater tank
so, i have a 33 gallon cichlid tank that used to also have a puffer in it. I would get those small snails that come in on the plants to feed the puffer, and had a hard time finding enough to keep him going. Anyway the puffer died a while back and the population of these snails kept growing. I bought 3 skunk botias to help with the problem but, they have had little effect so far.
Tonight I realized there wa a clicking coming from the filter, it seemed that one or two (so i thought) of these snails had climbed into the filter and their shells were knocking against the sides. I pulled it all apart and dumped it into the tub to fish them out. A lot got washed down the drain, but, then i thought i would count the remainder just for curiosity. ...207! just in the filter, and about the same number were washed away! ugh. So, best guess is there are at least a couple THOUSAND in the tank. I don't like to dose the tank with the snailx stuff, any suggestions on a type of fish (other then another puffer) that would live with 2 yellow lab cichlids, 2 kribs and 3 skunk botias, AND that eats snails? ...I may just find another puffer Current Aquarium(s) Description: *72 gallon bowfront reef *55 gallon freshwater puffer/cichld tank Experience in Saltwater & Reef Aquarium Hobby: One Year |

Re: my freshwater tank
I had thought of that, I love clown loaches, but, the skunk botias are a little too territorial with other loaches.

Re: my freshwater tank
When I was overrun by snail(bad choice on taking a rock from a local river) I used manual removal mostly, I should have used the snail stuff though I ended up getting so frustrated that I took the tank down and bleached everything! Use the snail killing stuff IMO.

Re: my freshwater tank
Get 4 dwarf puffers if your other fish arnt too big they will eat all of the snails completly.I had one in my ten and i had hundreds of ramhorn snails and he ate them but he sorta got sucked up in a powerhead that had its strainer off.........
