OT has anyone delt with black mold before?

Has anyone had first hand experience with it. I have found a leak when I was under my house and found some black mold and am in the middle of cleaning up. I have always heard its bad stuff but I have been reading and all the sites are so conflicting, either its dangerous or it causes minor stuff unless you have a weak immune system, a infant, elderly, or athsma. Whats the truth? How bad is? Anyone how has had this prob before please help.

There are lots of types of mold. Black mold isn't just one kind. I do mold inspections and remediation at work... Use some clorox and wear a mask. Call in a professional if the problem is ongoing.

Re: OT has anyone delt with black mold before?

Well what happend was the flange on my toilet broke and was causing a minor leak I pulled up the toilet and saw under the tile was wet so I riped off the tile and floor and there was a 3 foot by 3 foot area that had mold so I cut it out and fixed the leak and am going to put on the new floor when the plastic under the house is dry and clean. I never would have guessed I never saw it or smelled that mold smell till I crawled under the house. It sary to know there was a 3 by 3 spot that had it and I never even knew. I'm just scared it will hurt the wife daughter or baby on the way.

Re: OT has anyone delt with black mold before?

Its not a long prob because before I moved in last year I was under the house and didnt smell or see anything I'm guessing it came this summer from the leak. I'm going to call around tomarrow and find out if anyone can test the stuff to see what kind it is. I have read there are 100 house hold molds and 50 are dangerous. How bad can this stuff be?

Are those little cloth like face masks good enough? I bought those and have been wearing one when I work in there.

Bobby, I live in the great state of washington...... AKA black mold central. Theres so much moisture here black mold is everywhere. The stuff will take over my shower in a week if I let it. Every window seal, no matter how new the window will be covered in mold once a month. Long story short ive never gotten sick and my daughter never gotter sick so I wouldnt worry about it. Take Biffs advise and nuke it with some bleach then forget about it.

Re: OT has anyone delt with black mold before?

Well I have never had it before and am worried for the baby coming the net said it can kill babys by getting in there lungs and cause respatory bleeding. I dont know what I would do if I didnt do something right and end up killing someone. Man I hope I'm just freaking out about nothing. I have been sprying tons of 10%bleach water thats what the site said works the best and cutting otu everything I see that got wet. The sad part is I just remodled this house and am cuttin all new stuff out I busted all the brand new tile up were it got wet and floor. Man this sucks.

Re: OT has anyone delt with black mold before?

Well there are several kinds apparenlty and some are bad for your health. I have read its exspecialy bad for infant elderly and people with weak immune systems. Its just mold that grow when you have high humidity or a water leaks. I have tore up half my bathroom because I found some.

Re: OT has anyone delt with black mold before?

I tore up the tile and cut big chunck of dry wall out to make sure it wasnt in the walls thank god it wasnt because I really dont want to have to redo my dry wall again. Before I moved in here I redid everything and I mean everything all new dry wall subflorring tile carpet ceilings everything, and now I'm redoing it.
