I know its a huge trend on these forums for everyone to go to Vegas, so I'm going to go see what its all about!
The Excalibur is not the nicest hotel on the strip. I have heard horror stories about the small rooms. I have avoided it but I have stayed pretty much everywhere else. It is a lot of fun. Set some gambling limits so you do not lose your ass. There are great food options as well, if you are interested, PM me and I can tell you where to go and what to avoid for good food.

Re: Thinking about an anemone...

I've only been 21 for 6 months now, only drank/partied outside of my hometown once in Chicago, so Vegas will be a good time I think. I'm not too worried about the rooms since they are a good deal (free!). Do you know if they have a nice aquarium there? I'll be willing to take some tips on good places to go, my friend and his dad have been in saltwater for years and are really into it, so it should be a fun trip.
I want to stay away from more promiscuous places (just to prove to my girlfriend she doesnt have to worry), so no strip clubs or anything like that... Maybe play some black jack, not spend too much money on that though. Shop, I'm sure vegas has some good designer stores. And drink like crazy! If anyone has any recommendations just let me know.
Also about the anemone, the actinics have been on for 1 hour now, its uncurled since they came on and opened up pretty nicely again. It's actually looking really good for a change! I think I'll just leave the actinics on all day and break it in slowly. If it still curls up like its getting too much light Ill put a piece of cardboard across a part of that side of the tank.

Vegas is great. One day instead of losing at the blackjack table, I rented a brand new corvette convertible for 24 hrs for $250 and had a blast running around the desert, red rock canyon, evenwent to the hoover dam. You can rent a classic '57 chevy or a '67 camaro (with good engines)or even a ferrari, a viper or an old caddy with fins.
Have a blast!

Re: Thinking about an anemone...

That would be sweet! I wouldnt mind renting a new BMW M5 of M3 even if they are out for rent, they are pretty rare yet, the M3 that is. But I'm a poor college student right now, so I don't think ill be betting too much money or spending a ton. I've got 2 grand saved for when I move this summer to upgrade my tank!

I did have an M3 overnight once. If I actually had one they'd probabl;y take my license within 3 months

Re: Thinking about an anemone...

several places have good salt water tanks to look at. Silverton Casino, which is on the south end just off the strip has a big one. The Mirage has a great tank at the front desk. Caesar's Palace in the Forum Shoppes has an awesome tank (you will see why I love Sohal Tangs so much there) and the shopping in that place is incredible. The golden nugget has the corner on sharks.

Drinking is free at the tables or slot machines. If you want to get loaded cheap, head over to any casino, find a nickel slot machine, play 1 coin every minute or so and tip the waitress occasionally to keep them flowing. Waitresses will respond to a dollar tip for each drink to the tune of 1 every 5 minutes. You will get sloshed with hard liquor in about 30 minutes for about $6.

Re: Thinking about an anemone...

Alright the anemone is doing good with part of the tank shaded from light, i figured every day I can move the cardboard a little bit over until its under full light. Its open pretty decently now, not shiveled or anything, I got some krill today and just thought I would give it a shot and see if it would take it or not. I put a piece in for the anemone, went to touch it to a tentacle to see if it would hold it and every time it touched a tentacle it retracted... So I guess ill give it some more time to settle in and then try again in a few days.

Re: Thinking about an anemone...

Alright, not sure how far we are into the sebae anemone project, but its still doing good, light is still limited or it will shrivel up very quickly. It now holds food that I try giving it, but it never actually eats any of it. Its god a bunch of mysis shrimp held onto its tentacles right now, and a small chunk of krill it never moves to its mouth but just holds on to...It just holds onto the stuff until my cleaner shrimp comes over and steals it from the anemone eventually. Ive been protecting it for a while with the handle of the net chasing away the shrimp, but its not doing anything with the krill in the last hour... what is this things problem?!
