Reef Builder

How in the world do you get the stuff to dissolve? It says to mix with a cup of water but it never does. I even tried more water. When I add a little to tank it looks like it's snowing. I'm trying to get my Alkalinity up. Also does anyone have the link to where someone tested all the salt brands? I thinking of trying something different.

Re: Reef Builder

Piggy,
I've found that Reef Builder dont all dissolve. So when I mix mine,I pour it into my overflow. That seems to help keep the flakes out of the tank.
But if you decide to try something else,Give Kents Super-Buffer DKH a try.Its a powder, but dissolves real quick in about a half a cup of water.

Re: Reef Builder

My reef builder dissolves, but I found only if you dissolve in a cup of FRESHWATER. If you use tank water, it doesn't seem to work

Exactomundo!!

I dissolve my powdered chemicals in RO/DI water before I pour it in.

If you put it straight into saltwater, it instantly crystalizes and precipitates out in the water--it'll never dissolve.

Re: Reef Builder

I did put it in ro water. I tried stiring it. I even put it in a jug and shook it. It still didn't dissolve.

Sounds like bad product. Could be old or it could have been contaminated.

Could you borrow some from a friend and try that same product from a different package?

Re: Reef Builder

Lower the pH of your water with a little vinegar and it will dissolve real quickly, just like Kalkwasser or any other carbonate. It effervesces/fizzes (like Alka Seltzer) and dissolves in acid, and vinegar is a mild acid.

Re: Reef Builder

just me or is it a little weird to add something to lower your ph in order to dissolve a product designed to raise your ph?
