yeah, but what about cheato and all the other good stuff you are supposed to have in a fuge? (forgive me, I've never had one

an 8 inch DSB will do the same as a shallow bed and cheato

Yeah, if you're limited, then do 4" or 5" of sand. That works GREAT. 8" is dreamland. 4" works just fine.
