Have you ever had to sacrafice a fish for the good of the tank?

After reading a post that reminded me about my triggers when I had a FO tank I was curious if others had to make this rather difficult decision.

I have. When converting to reef my niger trigger would eat the snails and crabs almost immidiatly when I put them in the tank. I tried to condition the trigger not to attack them but his instinct was too great. I moved him to a very old 5 gallon tank, that I used to use for bettas, with nothing but ocean water, as I contemplated wether I should flush him or not. I know it's "just" a fish but it was very difficult!

Anyone else had to make these kinds of choices?

An $8 blue damsel is a little easier to chunk than a $30 niger trigger.
