with the fish just a description and requirements like: minimum tank size, care level, recommended tank conditions, max size of fish, temperament, diet, compatibility.
on the coral side you could probably almost go off the same list as the fish

I will see what I can do to accomodate that. give a bit to mull it over and do some checking and I will see what I can do. as soon as I have some firm direction and can do information I will post back here with that information and time frames. thanks for the inquiry. I also think it is a great idea. ANYONE WANT TO PREPARE A FISH AND A SEPERATE CORAL LIST OF MOST INTERESTED TO START? IS SO POST IT HERE IN THIS THREAD OTHERWISE I WILL SELECT THE MOST COMMON SEEN ITEMS. IF YOU HAVE ONLY ONE FAVORITE THAT IS ALSO OK.

QUESTION:

Thanks for that article - I have alot of Sargassum which has started growing on the liverocks since it was introduced, as I am raising the pH slowly (currently at 8.1 trying to get to 8.3) will this macroalgae die off and is it advisible to remove it before raising the pH?

Also on siphoning ... I have been told that this is not recommended in systems which have live sand, is this advice sound or just a myth as I currently use a turkey baster to blow detritus off the rock but find it hard to get the 'crap' off the substrate.

ANSWER:

-SINCE YOU ARE RAISING THE PH SLOWLY THE BROWN ALGAE YOU HAVE SHOULD FAIR VERY WELL. JUST KEEP AN EYE ON IT. SARGASSUM HELPS KEEP WATER QUALITY HIGH. FLOATS TOWARDS THE TOP AND IS EXPOSED TO AIR AT TIMES. SO, I BELIEVE YOU WILL BE OK.

-ON THE ISSUE OF SHIPHONING OFF THE SUBSTRAIT. IF YOU HAVE A SAND OR OOLITIC SUBSTRAIT IT IS NOT WISE TO PLOW DOWN INTO IT WITH A SHIPON BUT JUST LIGHTLY GOING OVER THE TOP AND ONLY DISTURBING THE TOP 1/8" SHOULD POSE NO PROBLEM FOR YOUR SYSTEM AS IT WILL REPOPULATE VERY QUICKLY BUT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO REMOVE THE FALLOUT. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Thank you very much for the response (and apologies for responding in the wrong bit!) - I will leave the sargassum for now and just trim it accordingly
