Re: 180 gallons up in this!!!! NWKRC!

You are about to hear something top secret. I've been thinking about my next fish lately. I already have three tangs (yellow, sailfin and yellow eyed kole), but I really want another tang, since they are my FAVORITES of our finned friends. I am thinking either a VLAMINGI! VLAMINGI! VLAMINGI! or a nice naso. My LFS has had a clown tang for a while, and I LOOOOOVE clown tangs, they are definitely one of the prettiest tangs, IMO, but they are soooo sickly and hard to keep alive...

Vlamingis are gorgeous but they grow gigantic.Nutrient, nutrient, nutrient is what I worry the most.I've been kinda lazy lately, haven't done a water change since the tank broke back in December. It's to bad they don't make dwarf tangs.

Thats some pretty dang sweet news! Hell we saw enough Vlamingis at the rainforest cafe for them to work thier way into your heart! Have you thought about going with an all out full blown unicorn or is that just not quite your style?

holy crap! thats like Biff lazy!!! you gotta do a water change man!

and yes there are some massive dumps that are produced by ol Jack. There is no doubt about that. and since im currently skimmer shopping due to the unpredictability of the super skimmer that is currently only running when im close by in case it floods....... again I have been doing bi weekly water changes on my tank

My LFS sometimes gets in some full blown unicorns, but they are very expensive. That horn ups their price big time. Lately, they've had some smaller vlamingis in, around 6 to 8 inches long. They have had really good coloration and patterns, and I think it'd get along with my other fish, which has got me thinking... But I really need to get these nitrates down before I add anything more. I even skipped the local frag swap today because I knew I'd be too tempted to buy stuff for my tank when my nitrates are not appropriate for anything right now

Re: 180 gallons up in this!!!! NWKRC!

Go VLAMINGI BIFF. They are really cool, I have to admit. I could get one.... but I am going with a SHARK instead. Bioload is not a big concern since I will just be keeping soft corals and they tend to be SUPER-hardy, so I am fine to have a pooping machine for a fish. Dominick, you seem to want a lot of movement and small fish with some color. Alexander and I are in it for the MASSIVE BEAUTIFUL fish. their size increases their beauty and risk. Biff, you seem to be somewhere in the middle

Re: 180 gallons up in this!!!! NWKRC!

when was the last time you did a water change biff? the only full blown unicorns ive seen in my lfs were juv (no horn yet) but they were only like 40 bucks i think. A 6-8 inch juv vlamingi would be awesome. and it would be pretty much a lifetime pet if you never got rid of it or killed it. Ill keep my eyes peeled for what you end up doing. additionally its amazing. I do water changes far more than you and Dom and i am still the one with the Algea problems. what is the deal with that!!!!

Re: 180 gallons up in this!!!! NWKRC!

I've have no nitrates so I haven't bothered doing a water change. The Kent Liquid Reactor seems to keep calcium, akalinity,pH perfect.Well, that and phosphate remover and carbon.

Re: 180 gallons up in this!!!! NWKRC!

Ahh the last time I did a water change. I've been doing 30 gallon water changes (that's 10% in my tank) every day or every other day for the last three weeks. I finally tested my water three weeks ago, and my nitrates were at an unmentionably high level. They are still at an unmentionably high level, because changing 10% at a time, even once a day, takes forever to bring them down. It's sad. My RODI unit run 24/7 to make me new water. And I've spent $300 in SALT ALONE in the last 3 weeks.
