Re: Dr Marco's Reef Build

Tank looks great, kinda hard to believe that not too long ago you kept a snake in there!
So far, what is the coral that you've had the most success with since you've got this tank? It's amazing to see how fast the coralline spread, and also, how big some of those corals are!

Re: Dr Marco's Reef Build

I have had the most success with Goniapora, wall hammer and branch hammers. My bubble coral has grown and my mushrooms have always done well, particularly my fuzzy mushrooms.

I have no idea what I do to get coralline to grow so fast. I just set up my tank and within a few day, it always just shows up

Re: Dr Marco's Reef Build

Doc,I was wondering if your Purple Queens are eating. Its been five days now and it shows no interest in eating anything, and I've tried everything.I even tried newly hatch brine/selcon/garlic and still nothing. The other anthias loved it though.Did you know tukas(Purple Queens) are one of the most difficult of all the anthias.

Here is some observation I learned so far from keeping anthias......

1)Tukas are to hard to keep, they really need to be left to the most dedicated hobbyist or left in the wild
2)Sunsets are to skittish, they rather starve to death then eat.Even if other fishes aren't bothering them.
3)Carberryi are the prettiest anthias under 50 bones and they are not picky eaters..I want more of them.
4)Male lyretails can be bastards at times.Never keep 1 male/2 female lyretails. One of the females will be toast in time.
5)Whats so hard about evansis?Websites list them as difficult...why?They eat like pigs just like the rest of the fish. They are not timid and has the best temperament of all the anthias I have.

I just wanted to list the experiences so far.One things for sure,no more tukas for me.

Re: Dr Marco's Reef Build

my purple queens are eating cyclopeeze, marine cuisine and emerald entree. The male stays out in the open, but the female remains hiddedn most of the time. she comes out at night and during the cycle of lighting when just the actynics are on. I have lengthened when the antynics are on and feed in the morning during that time as well as at night. that seems to work. sorry you are having trouble. I think they are worth it.

My bartletts eat like food is going out of style, even pushing around the regal tang to get to it. I have to get more of them. Just buy them 2 at a time

Re: Dr Marco's Reef Build

Buy what two at a time?Bartletts or Tukas?
For me,no more tukas. There's one long thread on RC about them and they are way to hard to keep.People telling of sob stories on trying to get them to eat.I'm glad they worked out for you but for me,no thanks.I'm going to get maybe one more bartlett and carberryi then move on to a wrasse preferably a mated pair.
