Re: Putter's first tank

Doesn't look like any sort of algae I've ever seen... I'd also go with some sort of coral. If that's the case, you scored BIG time, that's awesome looking.

Re: Putter's first tank

Well, back at home once again, and while in the big city (lol) I went to the only LFS there, and no stock, well the stock came in while I was there but with some ich so they had them all in hospital tanks treating the entire shipment so no fishes for me yet. I did however pick up a couple open brain corals...not sure if that was a smart idea or not...but was about the only chance I had to impulse buy so I took it! Here are a couple pics.

From what I could find to read it sounds like they like to be in the sand and at low to moderate flow, also low to mod light...hope that is the correct info. I may also give em a day or two and then move them to a spot that offers a little more room for growth.

Re: Putter's first tank

The first one looks kinda bleached -- is it white? The second one looks good and healthy. Good buys!

Re: Putter's first tank

more tan than white, assumed it was the natural colour of it.

Re: Putter's first tank

it looks like the coral in the first pic has been chewed to hell. All I can see if the what looks like the skeleton and a blob of meat in the center. Did a trigger or butterflyfish get a hold of that or are my eyes playing tricks on me? the second pic looks great though!

Re: Putter's first tank

The first looks like its near death. The skeleton exposed like that isn't good and I see very little flesh.I would feed both of them some krill or mysis about every three days til they fatten up.Do it when the lights are out and the feeder tenticles are exposed.

Re: Putter's first tank

ok I will indeed start feeding, and the light one has some of the skeleton exposed but not alot, but it does have alot of er...flesh...I think, will try to get another pic or 2 from different angles and keep a close eye on the little one...sure hope I didn't buy a near dead one They do come in a tan color as well right? One more thing...the green...button looking pics above....could that be the start to a moonstone brain? Oh and for feeding...just use a baster or some such thing with water and food mix and squirt near the corals? Doc I have no idea what may have chewed on it, if anything, there were a few wrasse in the tank with them but that was all. Just been shipped as well to the FS day before I bought them...maybe stress from shipping?

Re: Putter's first tank

I highly doubt the one in the first pic will survive.I've brought a few home several from my LFS that looked bad.All of em expired.
The second pic looks fairly healthy.
Good luck with em.

Re: Putter's first tank

depending on the wrasse, they may have nibbled on it. show us a different angle pick of that coral. I am interested in taking a better look at it

Re: Putter's first tank

Not sure if these will help, not so much of a different angle but maybe a bit closer and clearer. Think the only way to get any kind of different angle would be to move the coral.
