Dr Marco's 125 experiment

So, I decided to post the progress of my 125 fish tank experiment. My once proud 125 angel tank, which recently won the fabled picture of the month award, has been sacked to create a 90 gallon reef tank and left the 125 pretty picked over. It still has a few angelfish, but not the amount of livestock that it originally had. While the 90 is going well, and I have a thread for it, I figured that I would post the progress of my 125 as I move it closer toward its destiny - just not sure what that is yet. Here is what it currently looks like.

Pretty bare in comparison, huh?

I only have two fish inhabitants, both angelfish and the corals that I have left are just softies and a few mushrooms.

While it looks lean, it will not stay that way for long. I am open to suggestions from the forum about what to do. I have a loose plan to keep the angels (obviously), add another singapore angel, and I am thinking about that brown-banded bamboo shark. Not sure what else, especially corals. I am not looking to upgrade lights but I do need more live rock.

Re: Dr Marco's 125 experiment

Poor coralline,I know its only coralline but it still sad to see it die after so many years of growing. The system does look a bit bare compare to its once glory. It still looks great though.

How about some rarer and colorful LPS.Micromussa,Blastomussas, and Acan Lords come to mine.I like to see what a Sohal looks like in someones system besides in pictures.

Re: Dr Marco's 125 experiment

the bottom pic is of my blue angel. It is not considered "reef safe". But for me, I have been able to pull it off. it gets over a foot in length. You need to have a tank that is a minimum of 6 feet in length to make sure they have ample swimming room.

um, reef, you know that what I post on this forum is, um, well, pictures? - giggle-

Seriously, I am planning on a sohal for sure. I am not sure about the shark. I really want one again. I miss them.

I am planning on putting in blastos, lobophillia, scolymia, and other LPS in my 90, so you can see them there.

Re: Dr Marco's 125 experiment

You know Doc,you gave me an idea. When the new 210g arrives,I may just go ahead and set up the 75 and the 12g nano(Like I QT anyways) up as well. Can I buy your lights from you?(jk).

I don't see enough wrasses in peoples systems(except the sixline).I like to at sometime in the future add maybe a Scott's Fairy, what about a fancy wrasse?

Re: Dr Marco's 125 experiment

I actually thought of you buying my lights if you were going to be stuck with the 75 for a long time. Funny you were thinking the same thing. As far as wrasses go, I have an ornate wrasse now in my work tank, but I have only tried the yellow coris wrasse in my 125. There were OK, but not impressive in size. With some of the fairy wrasses, there color almost gives me a headache. Kinda like care bears threw up on each other.

You crack me up on how you describe their colors.I like to think of them like abstract art.I like how many of the wrasse has that swimming motion that I can't seem to describe but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
