Re: Chaos's First Salt 20g

I have a quick question about testing for ammonia and nitrites, will a freshwater test kit return false information or is it ok to use it for now? I am getting a reef test kit but i am waiting for my paycheck this friday its showing ammonia at about .25ppm and nitrites above 1.0ppm at day 5 i figured thats about right since the ammonia would be converted to nitrites and then they sit and wait to be changed same as a freshwater?

I have a tast kit that does freshwater and saltwater from the same kit. The only difference is he read cards. Are you sure it's for freshwater only?

Re: Chaos's First Salt 20g

Some test kits are freshwater only. Those will show incorrect results. Other tests are for freshwater and saltwater, but, like Piggy said, different colors will correspond to different results, so the package usually contains two different cards, one for freshwater and one for saltwater. If your tank is just starting to cycle, and you don't have any animals in it, testing can wait until you get a saltwater kit. You testing the water isn't going to make a difference or speed things up.

Re: Chaos's First Salt 20g

Alright, lol i just was trying to see the levels and what was going on it does make you very anxious looking a tank with rock... lol another quick question, i have mineral deposits in the tank that i thought i got rid of when i cleaned the tank but now they are back since there is water in the tank and if i scrub at them they git pretty clean but you can still see a little bit of it that wont come off, does anyone know how to get them off?

Re: Chaos's First Salt 20g

My old 75 was once a freshwater tank.I never did scrub the mineral deposit or hard water stain or whatever it was. After setting it up saltwater,it went away on its own.
