Another thought. I bought a new heater to warm up the water change water and thermometer. I noticed that the water was a lot cooler than my tank water. They both read within a few degrees of each other. My tank reads 78 right now and the other 76. My tank water though feels really warm. If that thermometer is wrong and the water is actually warmer than it should be could that be helping cause the cloudiness problem? I also bought some fresh charcoal and foam pads.

Warm water does just like warm air.It rises.
So your tank will be a little warmer at the surface and cooler at the bottom.
So as Piggy suggested, keep your thermometer at about mid-way.
I also doubt that the difference in temps had anything to do with the cloudyness.

Re: reefer2b's tank

Oh well, I just like for there to be a reason for something then I can fix it and I guess there isn't one in this case.
I just cleaned my filter and the water was clear not brown for the first time. It still has free floating particles so I dumped it and put in fresh, but I guess as long as the water wasn't brown that's a good sign. Or at least I'm going to take it as one. I put in fresh foam and charcoal. So we'll see if that helps.
On another note my cleaner shrimp whom I've had less than 2 weeks has already molted twice. He seems to be fine. I just didn't realize they molted that often.

Some times we just cant explain things that happens with our tanks, sometimes we can.
Just keep your chin up.You eventually get worked through it.
Like any other hobby, you dont really enjoy the good, untill you've fought through the bad.

Re: reefer2b's tank

About the temperature in your tank, you should have two thermometers on hand at all times. You would not believe how many times people think their temp is spot on when it's really 10 degrees higher than it should be because they had a bad thermometer. Also, if there's one thing that's certain in this hobby it's that the thermostats of heaters cannot be trusted! Always have two thermometers to be able to double check your temps.

I do now. They are both reading pretty close within a degree. This morning they both at 80. I wish I had gotten two of the same but they were out of the one I already had. My second heater for the warming of the change water is smaller than rated for my tank but will be better than nothing if the one I have stops working.

Re: reefer2b's tank

It looks a little better this morning. My hubby says I'm nuts. But, it does seem clearer; at least I can see further through the side of tank today than the past week.

Re: reefer2b's tank

I seldom need reef advice, but often need living advice. I never learned such things as social graces. I have a hard time relating to "normal people", you know them things called nice people. I do not understand the how OR even the why. Hard to get or ask for help for those things. Counseling sure does not help, nor eduction, and my life experiences always swing toward the antisocial side. Management, supervision, foreman, night shifts, self employment, etc. Even without trying I notice I treat worse the people I most admire or wish for friends. My parents were very "different," actually very indifferent to others. I just haven't changed but have seemed to seek reinforcement in reasons to justify my anti socialism and general mistrust of human beings. Oh, yeah questions.
