wow thats an amazing tang! I realy hope you have luck with it, however the harsh reality is i think you have bit off more than you can chew like way more. Clown tangs are not reccomeneded for any beginning aquarist and its really too bad that people just buy them only to let them die. it looks amazing though.

Good luck with that clown tang. Redline is right, they are one of the most difficult tangs to keep alive. I tried one a while back, and it died within a week. I would not recommend them at all unless you have a very large, mature tank. Did you do any research on the clown tang before you bought it, or did you just see it and buy it? I think if you did some research on it, you would have read about what a difficult fish it is. Maybe in the future you should research your animals before you buy them.

And you just bought a tile fish a few days ago too. SLOW THE EFF DOWN FOR THE LOVE OF FREAKIN GOD.

Rant over. Please, Dustin. You're killing me.

Re: dustins first tank. 120 gallon(lots of pics)

all the experience in the world can't change the fact that you don't have a mature tank to support fish that typically require that.

its like saying "I've been doing this for 15 years so I can add a BTA the week after my cycle with power compacts"

Re: dustins first tank. 120 gallon(lots of pics)

sorry man I'm not trying to attack you by any means, I'm just saying it definitely was not a smart choice for a fish. and that's the problem with a lot of people in this hobby. its a huge lack of respect for ocean life on this planet. like I said I'm just voicing my opinion and not really trying to yell at you or rip you hard. in fact like I said I hope you have amazing luck with it

Re: dustins first tank. 120 gallon(lots of pics)

It would be best if they were not bought by anyone. No demand, no harvesting, no deaths. I think it sorta fits in with the Moorish Idol, which I believe should not be harvested at all. Not because "experienced" reefers can not keep them alive (some can, they say), once the 1 in 10 that is harvested actually makes it to their tanks, but because nearly all of them are bought by people who have very little chance of keeping them alive I believe they should not be harvested and therefore not sold to anyone. I wish I could constrain myself to never buying a fish that can not be successfully aqua cultured, but I am not that strong willed a person. I however, am strong willed enough to not buy fish that very few people can keep alive and healthy for any long length of time (I hope). The most difficult fish to keep I have bought in the last ten years has been a few Mandarin Gobi and Copper Banded Butterfly Fish. All are either alive or lived in excess of four years. My worse failures prior to the last ten years were with Mandarins, before the use of deep sand beds and live rock. Bad time with anemones, I will never buy another, of any type.

Re: dustins first tank. 120 gallon(lots of pics)

fatman i couldnt agree with you more. Only fish I have pulled the risk on was a copperband. it didnt work out, and i dont think that i will ever buy another one for that very reason. I will never buy a moorish idol and wish that nobody else ever would so there would be no demand. Additionally i would like to think that maybe oned day i will be strong willed enough to just buy aquacultured fish. but like you I am not strong willed enough to do that yet
