Quote:
Like Redline says, maybe your dad has experience, but your tank is not ready. You can have had tanks all your life, but that doesn't make it a wise decision to throw extremely difficult fish into a brand new tank that is already overstocked for the short time that it's been set up. A dad with years of experience does not overcome poor and hastily made stocking decisions, like yours. The fish that have already died should have proved this to you already.

Maybe, you can hope so. You could try scraping some of the eggs off into a tupperware container with holes punched in it if you really wanted to try and breed them. That way they'll still get some water movement but be protected from predators.

Re: dustins first tank. 120 gallon(lots of pics)
so i was looking at my tank today and it came to me that i have the mega flow overflow boxes and if the power goes out here for more the thirty seconds my sump will overflow because there are slots at the top middle and bottom of the tank so it will always drain from one of those slots and if the power goes out the pump wont put it back into the tank and i will have a completely empty tank and a wet floor, so how do i fix that situation?

Re: dustins first tank. 120 gallon(lots of pics)
Your sump should only be half to at most two thirds full when the pump is running. There are drilled holes in a Mega flows return pipes to limit the amount of water that will flow back into your tank when the power goes out. They are called anti-siphon holes. They must be periodically checked to make sure they are not clogged. They are on the underside of the ninety degree fitting that the flexible Loc-line pipe screws into. A bent paper clip works good to poke in the holes. The water in the overflow pipes stop flowing pretty quickly, as the inner wall of the overflow is fairly high so the water will only flow in to the over flow tower for a few seconds (the inner wall only has holes (slot) at the top to let water in the tower). There is a procedure to adjust the water level in the tank if you need to. It is a simple procedure that your dad should be able to explain to you. If you wish one of us to explain the procedure just ask. I do not believe it is in the articles section, but it might be there under a title like "sumps."

Fatman is right, you need to leave enough empty space in your sump to accommodate any "leftover" water from the main tank if the power goes out.
