Re: Reef's 210g. Journal

I seen those rocks on different websites.Sounds like the Tonga Deepwater,it suppose to lighter than Fiji.I may have try some of those too.

There are so many choices today.Back in my day it was Fiji or Caribbean, now its Uaniva,Huni,Kaelini,Bali,Pakuni,so on and so on.

Re: Reef's 210g. Journal

While your waiting for your rock I have a question. It's about the sump part. I know your doing a seperate refugium so what are the other three compartments for? Also is a refuguim like a small seperate tank for like hatching brim or putting trouble makers? I'm trying to learn as much as I can while your doing your tank. It's easier to soak all the info in this way. Hope you don't mind.

Re: Reef's 210g. Journal

The three compartments? You mean the three different chambers on the sump. The left side is where the skimmer and prefilter. The middle holds three of the heaters, float switch for the auto top off, there's an accessory rack for three filter cylinders(carbon, phosphate remover, floss or whatever media I may need to run). The middle is where water returns to the DT also. The right compartment is for a pump to feed the refugium and prefilter. You can run media bags their too.

The refugium is a good place for trouble makers. Its main goal is for the removal of nitrate.Macroalgae, some live rock and a deep sand bed helps in the removal of nitrate.I'm going to keep a few corals in there too, like my xenias and sun corals. The fuge is a good place to grow macro-algae without the threat of predators eating it.

Hope this explains it Piggy,if not, feel free to ask.

Re: Reef's 210g. Journal

Piggy, in my homemade sump, I have three compartments. The first is where the water comes in, and this holds all the equipment. The second is the refugium, and the third holds the return pump and sends water back to the main tank.
