Getting back Pink in a Pink Birdsnest

The coral is definitely not dead. Polyp extension over the whole birds nest is really good. The green in tinge in the last photo is only there when the whites in the LED's fade out during sunset and is isolated to the new growth tips. During full light, when the pink is at its best, the tips...

Getting back Pink in a Pink Birdsnest

I am having a little progress. Bought the Hanna Checker and my phosphates were actually zero. So I have been trying to get Nitrates and Phosphates up a little. I also shuffled my lights back a little towards the rear of the tank where they will give better coverage of the SPS (particularly...

Getting back Pink in a Pink Birdsnest

I'm wondering if its a phoshate issue and have ordered a hanna checker for phosphates. My Red Sea kit has been giving 0.08 readings for tank, tap and RODI readings.

Getting back Pink in a Pink Birdsnest

Quick question for someone who may have experience in this. I have a Pink Birdsnest (well it was pink when I got it 12 months ago) that has gone a browny colour. When the blue comes into my lights there is a neon green tinge to it. It lost its colour around the time I had a phosphate issue. I...

    Acropora Rescue

Two months on, the acro is still hanging in there. The couple of branches that were really bleached and showing signs of what I assume was RTN didn't make it, but you can see the rest. Some of the undersides also died off, but the amount of flesh has been stable for over a month, just the colour...

    Acropora Rescue

So I was at the LFS today picking up some NSW and RO Water. As usual I had a bit of a sticky beak in the Coral tank. A bit of a chat about the acro's in the tank (he had a heap of new frags) and I walked out the door with a free piece to try and rescue. This bit has been in the shop tank for...

What LED units do you all have?

I have the Illumagic Blaze (http://www.illumagic.com.tw/blaze-series.html). Took a little while to get happy with the way I programmed it, but really happy now. Been running it for 6 months now and love it.

    Serpent Star Behaviour

Stayed up tonight after lights out to watch what happens and it is zooming around the tank. Guess it just likes sleeping with the lights on. Fine by me as I love looking at it, just thought it was weird behaviour.

    Serpent Star Behaviour

Definitely looks healthy, its just the change in behaviour this week that has be questioning things. Its gone from rarely seen, other than a walk once the lights go out, to being visible all day (albeit seemingly asleep). I do love the patterns on it. Actually looks similar to our snake which...

    Serpent Star Behaviour

Couple of quick questions, hopefully to set my mind at ease. I have a few Brittle Stars (red) and a Serpent Star. They have been in the tank for about 5 months now doing their thing. This week though, the Serpent Star has changed its behaviour. Rather than hiding in the rocks all day, it has...

Help identifying SPS that came on cured live rock.

I'll keep posting pics as it develops. I've had people who have seen it suggest it could be Cyphastrea.

Help identifying SPS that came on cured live rock.

A few weeks on and its starting to look like this. There is about 4 patches this size on the rock. The polyps have a greenish tinge when the blue comes into the lights, the rest of the skeleton is red/brown (purple under the blue lights).

    Lobo and Blasto Placement

Don't know what I was reading last night, but now you've said that I've looked around the net again and it confirms everything you've said. Too many beers at the Football maybe?? Glad I haven't glued it down yet. Time to find a more suitable place in the tank. Thanks for the heads up.

    Lobo and Blasto Placement

It honestly took less than an hour for them to both expand. The Lobo was much quicker to go for the food last night though. If they continue to look as they are I won't be moving them as they are visible from avery angle looking at the tank. The shop also threw in a piece of Echinophyllia...
