I heard a loud noise a couple of nights ago and am thinking it is a pistol shrimp. How often do they normally do that? I am not even sure if I have one.

Well, I've had both a Mantis Shrimp (see my avatar) and I now have a Pistol Shrimp/ Goby pair. They both sound about the same. My Pistol seems to snap to get my attention when the Goby is hungry. The Mantis snapped when he was after something or I teased him.

Keep your eyes open and be sneaky. See if you can catch who ever is snapping.

You hear my pistol snap all of the time, Especially at lights out. He just goes nuts. Its sort of fun to listen to him, but thats cause the tank is in my livingroom...I dont remember who it was that didnt sleep for like a month because their tank was in their room and the pistol shrimp drove her crazy

I just can't afford anymore delays and you're one of those fish that cause delays. Sometimes its a good thing. There's a whole group of fish; they're called delay fish.~ Marlin

I believe that was amber. I remember she took out all her rocks to get a mantis out.
