Porcupine puffer from the wild +

I promise I'll post a pic when I get back from the Bahamas. Little puffer ate a live ghost shrimp from my fingers last night.

    Snowflake eel size and feeding

So training my dad to feed the eel when I'm on vacation for 10 days is not a necessity? Good to know. It's enough to ask him to put a pinch of pellets and 1/2 gallon of fresh water daily. I'll make sure to feed him a good meal before my trip.

Porcupine puffer from the wild +

Puffer ate tonight!! Yeah! I was feeding my snowflake and put a tiny piece of fish on a bamboo skewer. My inch long puffer went over and munched on it. I'm so thrilled.

Porcupine puffer from the wild +

I'll try my best. The fish was collected in a very busy boat area in brackish water. We had some sargassum float in. He was in oily water, what a shame.

Porcupine puffer from the wild +

Not thinking about that at the moment because I'm upgrading to a 300 in a year or so. Right now, it's an inch. Any recommendations?

Porcupine puffer from the wild +

I just acquired a tiny 1" puffer collected near a marina in some sargassum. OMG! So cute. There were some tiny shrimp in the weeds and he ate some in the bucket. Now he's in my tank and getting acclimated. He's not in the top corner as much but exploring and hiding in various places in...

    Snowflake eel size and feeding

I have had a snowflake in my 90 gallon tank for at least 6 months. It has grown! I wonder when I should think of removing it because of getting too big. Wish I wouldn't have gotten it but let's just say I know way more now than I knew then. I imagine at some point it may eat my small clowns...

What is this maroon stuff overtaking my tank?

It's spreading like crazy and is crusting over my coral frags and starting to kill them. It's sponge like in texture and has occasional small air bubbles releasing. It started slowly but has picked up speed in growing and spreading. It's dense and doesn't brush off. I have a cleanup crew and...

Why is my water getting so salty?

Positive. It either comes out of my tap and I add dechlorinator or from the store. It's really strange and not my imagination because I have been tracking it for about a month. Oh well. Maybe just one of those weird undescribable things.

Why is my water getting so salty?

Just a cheapo plastic SeaTesT Full Range Specific Gravity Meter. While it's likely not the most accurate tool on earth, it surely shows my water getting saltier over time. Are those refractometers recommended? I'm starting to shop for improvements in many areas.

Water changes with 100+ gal tanks

About that MJ1200 + This is a great thread. My tank is 90 gal and I'm a small chick. I just did a 20 gallon change today and it was a real pain. I use 7 gallon water containers and get my water 3 miles offshore. I have been looking for a pump for my water changes. Apparently I have been...

Why is my water getting so salty?

I add about half a gallon of RO freshwater daily to the sump of my 90 gallon saltwater aquarium. I drew a line with permanent marker to indicate the appropriate water level. Sure enough, the level goes down about a half a gallon daily. Why after a week is my water considerably saltier. It...

    This is so exciting!

Eating lionfish We (the people who eat lionfish in Florida) believe that the lionfish found in Florida waters are not dangerous. There has been some chatter among scientists here about the prevalence of ciguatera toxin in the Caribbean vs. Atlantic. The toxin should not be any more...

    This is so exciting!

Now that's what I call a welcome. Thank you + I was very pleased with the water testing the store did for me today. After two weeks, ammonia and nitrite are barely detectable and nitrates are 5. It looks like there may have been a very small cycle but it sounds like my tank man knew what he...

    This is so exciting!

I did not release them. The former owner did. I believe it's illegal to release fish back into the ocean in Florida, even if they are native.

    This is so exciting!

Re: Lol! I ate the fish in the tank BEFORE I + Not sure what your point is. Money? Paid Zero to tank consult guy. Not sure I line thus forum. I think I'm in the wrong place. Really?

    This is so exciting!

Lol! I ate the fish in the tank BEFORE I + Took possession of the tank. It wasn't my pet and I didn't kill it. I couldn't kill my own pet. Funny, we have a lionfish in the tank at school. We are worried about it getting big, which it is. We can't possibly eat "Larry". Sorry, but I...

    This is so exciting!

Your comments are riddled with assumptions + The man who helped me move the tank has been designing and relocating tanks for 26 years. I certainly don't have more poop now. Have you ever seen first hand how much a 9 inch lionfish eats and poops? It's like dropping a grenade in the sand...

    This is so exciting!

Little Fish: one more question + You mentioned that many of my fish are unsuitable for my tank. Would you be more specific? Are you talking about them getting too big or conflicting personalities? The angels are very small. The lionfish is the smallest fish in the tank. Everybody is...

    This is so exciting!

Thanks, a little question + We tried to plan the tank move intelligently. How much cycling do you think it's doing? I was told by a maintenance guy that I would avoid cycling by doing the following (I kind of trusted him since he had been serving this particular tank for over 5 years.) The...
