So i went to trim my chaeto and found this... Is this normal or does anyone have any ideas on what it is?

That's another type of micro algae you have, (caulerpa aka grape algae)...I personally removed all of it out my system, because it leaches the nitrates back into the tank.

If Caulerpa goes asexual,it'll release all the nutrients its stored up right back into the tank.

They are right, it's caulerpa algae. Some people like to have it in their fuge, some don't (I don't). If you have tangs, some tangs will enjoy it as a treat and you can feed it to them.
