Scientific name - Hymenocera elegans

Family – Gnathophyllidae

Common name – Harlequin Stripped, Bumble Bee Shrimp

Range - Indian Ocean, Indo-Pacific

Max Size – 1.5 in (3.5 cm)

Care Level – Moderate

Temperament – Peaceful

Foods and feeding – This shrimp feeds only on the tube feed of echinoderms, and prefers the Asterias rubens species. If you are going to keep this shrimp you must be able to provide food for them.

Supplements - Calcium, Magnesium, Iodine, Trace Elements

Aquarium suitability -

Reef compatibility – Yes

Captive care – This shrimp does best in a small tank with a mated pair. They only eat the tube feet of starfish. A starfish can be kept in another tank, cutting off small pieces of the legs every few days. The legs should grow back as long as the starfish is kept in the proper environment. Like all invertebrates, they are extremely sensitive to nitrates and copper, and should only be kept in aquariums with pristine water conditions.
