Wow that is a wake up call. Its so easy to overlook the Lil things such as this, and yet we have many people going above and beyond to help these innocent people.

That video is a very cool experiment, and it's nice to see people caring about important things, but be careful with watching it. Invisible Children has come under A LOT of flak for their practices.

    To be brief:

    • Only 32% of Invisible Children's funding went to direct services
    • Both the Ugandan army and Sudan People's Liberation Army are riddled with accusations of rape and looting, but IC supports them.
    • Kony is no longer active in Uganda and hasn't been since 2006.

Another good summary of the whole thing

Good to raise awareness, Kony needs to be brought to justice, but I'm very leery of the Invisible Children Organization. Just my :twocents:

I've actually been hearing a lot about that since the video came out. As sad as it is to say I'm wary of a lot of non-profit organizations. A startling amount of them only give a fraction of their donations to the actual cause.

As sad as peoples' situations are in 3rd and 4th world countries is (I'm from a third world country, myself), I find it sad that people will ignore their own country's problems and violences. I can't buy into the sadness in another country when I can drive 30 miles and find children who are in just as much need. You can say they're still better off than those in 3rd world conditions...but are they really?

And yes...be wary of who you give your money too. I don't donate to new organizations because they're not proven. Especially ones the crop up around the time of disasters/turmoils. Not to say older nonprofits are innocent. Just do your research before you donate to a cause.

I firmly believe it is a scam. The man who made the documentary got arrested the other day for running make in the street and masturbating in public. They posted a video a couple years back and it will immediately show you it is a joke. Only 30% of the money you send goes to Uganda, the rest goes to his organization. He can then use he money for whatever he wants.

He obviously not saying he supports Kony, he's saying that Invisible Children seems very much like a scam. Which I can't say I disagree.

Not to mention the fact that this documentary is all about Kony's atrocities in Uganda to try and use children to create an uproar (which I'm not saying they didn't happen, obviously they did) but, Kony was kicked out of that country four years ago. That doesn't get mentioned in the documentary at all.

They came to our school and did a whole presentation on it. I support taking out Kony, but I feel like their charity group is taking advantage of Kony, and just making money, even though they say they dont.
I think some of us should get together with Yote and his guns and go over and pay a visit to Kony!

    Quote:
Invisible Children used 32% of its $10.3 million in 2010-2011 donations on salary, travel and filmmaking last year. The organization states to donors on their website that, “100% of your contribution will go straight to advocacy, awareness and events that directly focus on ending the LRA’s atrocities.”

Well isnt traveling and making the documentary part of the cause of bringing it to light?(awareness) As far as paying the people that made it ya i see that as a big **** up.
