pencil urchin

ok so i just noticed this white substance on the top of my pencil. any idea what it is. i touched it to make sure it was still alive and the substance kinda disolved.
any ideas?

well just poured in a 5 gallon bucket of watewr into the tank and next i know i look ever and its covered in white shit. maybe the force of the water going into the tank got him "excited"
